As a fresh faced Media Relations manager a few years out of University, in 2005 I was thrown into the dizzy world of Dubai, recruited by a former boss to establish the in-house PR function at one of the emirate’s most high profile organisations. Gaining huge exposure and experience in areas such as corporate reputation, organisational positioning, media, internal & stakeholder relations and crises/issues management, I was given the opportunity to take responsibility for delivering international integrated campaigns, to work with partners such as Trump, Cirque du Soleil and MGM Mirage, and to make a significant contribution to the success of the organisation – which during my time there grew from 400 to 4000 employees.
After three and a half years, I was asked to join Leisurecorp, a recently formed sister organisation that was preparing to embark on a major 18 months of project delivery. Despite Dubai feeling the effects of the global economic crisis , we successfully delivered a number of major projects, including the inaugural year of the Race to Dubai, the reopening of Turnberry, the opening of Jumeirah Golf Estates and the Dubai World Championship. Having returned to England, I now act in a consultancy role as Head of Communications to The Stripe Group, a start-up organisation established to acquire and improve the performance of golf assets.
